Hey choirsters, here's the schedule of practices for the upcoming two weeks.

For the 16th of November (Monday), please report to the Music Room at 3.30pm sharp, choir will end at 6pm.
19th of November (Thursday), choir starts at 9am and will finish at 11am.
23rd of November (Monday), choir will be from 3.30pm to 6pm.
26th November (Thursday), choir will be from 9am to 11am.

Dear all,

There is no Choir practice on the first day of Term 3, 29 June 2009. I also regret to inform you that the farewell party will be postponed till further notice.

This is a precautionary measure due to the surge in the number of H1N1 cases. Please listen out for announcements during morning assembly (in your classrooms) or check out Choir blog for further updates.

I will not be around from 1 July (Wednesday) onwards. Here's wishing all the best to the Secondary 4 and 5 for your O Level. To the rest of you, I'll see you again when I return in June 2010.

A Letter To Quest Choir

My Beloved Quest Choir,

The past two days have been emotional for most of us. I think, as a team, you have become closer and I was most heartened when I saw how you comforted one another despite being sad yourselves.

I think some of you have been blaming yourselves for our results. Some are probably even thinking our best efforts couldn't even get us a Silver and are thus feeling lousy. Please do not think this way! And, like one of your graduated seniors (who posted a couple of entries before this), I hope there will not be any finger-pointing and blaming of who was at fault. It is always very easy to push the blame on other people. To those of you who don't do this, I applaud you because you have grown one level up in maturity. To those who are, I urge you to reflect and think of how you could have helped your fellow members during practices.

As we (yes, myself included) reflect, allow me to remind everyone what we have achieved in spite of the SYF results:

1) The set piece this year was tough to begin with and yet you managed to learn the song well.

2) This is our first time attempting an a cappella piece and you only had two months to learn and master it. Even though we felt that it was far from perfect mastery, you improved tremendously (remember how you awful you sounded the first time you came to sing it together?), you did your best for it and got a Bronze which was no easy feat!

3) Our newer members were learning a cappella for the first time, with most of you having no prior experience in stage performance. I am sure you have learnt what it feels like to sing a cappella and to take part in a performing arts examination (SYF Central Judging is like a national examination for performing arts CCAs). And like what Ms Khor said, I'm sure you have better appreciation of choral singing as an art now. Hence, do not allow any criticisms (like, "because of you, Choir's standard dropped") to get to you. Because it did not. You were simply attempting something difficult without basic foundation skills in singing and prior experience in stage performance.

At this point, I salute the volleyball boys for your efforts. It was really not easy for you to juggle between training for volleyball tournaments and choir practices when you first joined Choir. But I really think you have the best of both worlds now - being the sporty person that you already are and having the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to perform on stage. Like what Ms Jennifer Philips said, not many people can boast about that! So, I'm really proud of your achievements. And I thank you from the bottom of my heart for joining Choir to give us the boost in guy-power!

I know I have been harsh on everyone (especially when I was monitoring attendance) but all of you have bore my screeching quite well, I must say. To be honest, I enjoyed listening and watching you sing - and I realise it was not so much of how well you sang, but the energy and joy exhibited on your faces and in your body language as you performed that made me smile or want to smile. (I must maintain my reputation as an "anal" teacher, you know?)

Please continue singing and performing with joy and enthusiasm. Then I think Ms Khor, the teachers and I have succeeded in helping you better appreciate choral singing.

Naturally, we will want to take back that Silver (your senior said Gold!) come SYF 2011. Whether it's Gold, Silver, Bronze or Copper (maybe they should have Platinum and Titanium too), I know in two years' time, we'll be so ready and prepared for it that we can't wait to get on stage again to burst out in singing!

For now, let's refocus and put our attention on studies. The mid-year examination is just two weeks away. We have done what we could for SYF; there are no regrets. Now, let's do what we can for studies. I wish you all the best! We'll come back together again after the exams - and yes, graduating seniors, please join us if you can and are willing. :)

Hi everyone, I just really want to thank you guys for being part of my life. I'm going to miss every single one of you and I'm really sorry if I abused you in one way or another. You guys are really really awesome people and a bronze doesn't mean its a bad thing. It doesn't mean we can't pick ourselves up again. I know for many of us, it's our last SYF together, but so what if we didn't achieve our goals? We had fun eventually, and we improved a lot. And by a lot, I mean a lot, a lot. So just move on and don't regret, ever. Don't blame yourselves, because its not worth it.

(To the people that's gnna take over) I really hope that you guys will press on no matter what and push the choir like crazy because you guys are going to make it one day. I don't know when, but I know you guys will.

Hi choir,
You rarely find me here but what I just want to say is what is done has already done.
Do not moan over this defeat, but take this as a lesson that you gain from it and learn what you have always cherish beside you, especially so for the seniors. Do not point fingers at others because that would affect the entire morale of the team and TEAM is an important goal to the success of any choir in the world! What I can say that I can see that your have put in a lot of effort, some of your have even slogged over it. Some of your might not see it now, but you’ll soon come to realise that this CCA is not but any other CCA that you can find in schools. You can ask your seniors they can tell you, especially a very special Nicole Tee when she mentioned in her blog.
To the seniors, this may be your final year, but I must really say that your have had a much exciting and eventful journey in choir. Looking at some of your when you yourselves were juniors, indifferent, or “bo chap” till now being so concerned and anxious over choir matters and stuff like that. I guess it’s really heart-warming to see such growth especially so for the teachers that have gone with you along this journey. Do not let this affect you and your studies!
To the rest, do not think that by dropping back to bronze just mean that we’re back to square one! It just means a harder step for us to climb. But, we can achieve it! We are always progressing and we shall promise that we would not falter, slip nor give up along the way because THAT IS HOW WE CAN STRIVE FOR OUR GOLD NEXT SYF! And I’m sure that is what all of your want, am I right? Even if we falter and slip, we must pull one another up so that we can always continue to learn and grow and improve together as a choir. Of course, we must always maintain that integrity and discipline that we must have for choir in order to achieve our goal! So don't stress the teachers! haha =P
So dear choir, don’t be sad. Take it as a lesson that you have gained to add on to this interesting choir diary that you would review after the 4/5 years in this CCA. It’s surely one not to be missed as justified by your seniors and their seniors and me. Seniors, take this lesson as a growing phase for what it is to come. =) Cheers! =) Thanks!

Here's the message I received from Ms Khor via SMS: Our choir did their best today. Am very proud of them.

Regardless of the results (due for release tomorrow at 6pm), let's move on from here to improve further (especially now that you have heard what Gold standard is like).

Anyone interested to join me tomorrow to go VCH to hear the results can meet outside the staffroom at 4.15 pm.

Some announcements:

1) There will be no Choir practice until the mid-year examinations are over. Please listen out for announcements during morning assembly in May.

2) Sec 3 pupils going Karimun Island are to prepare 1 English song and 1 Mandarin song for a cultural exchange performance there. Ms Khor suggested White Horses and Ye Lai Xiang. Please let me know by this week if you can do it.

Please note the following details on our upcoming practice sessions.

A 2-way transport will be provided to all on both practice dates. Hence, please report punctually. The buses will not wait for you if you are late.

Do note that all official practices on Thursdays and Fridays are cancelled. Official practices from now till SYF date are every Monday and Saturday. (THREE weekends left!)

However, if your sectional leader wishes to conduct a practice on any of the weekdays (Tue-Thu), please co-operate and attend your sectionals. The 2 hours at SLO every Saturday will still be insufficient. Ms Khor cannot extend her time with us at SLO because other schools will be coming to occupy her time. So if we can't deliver what she wants by that day, we are the ones who will be at a disadvantage. Hence, please attend your sectionals as requested by your sectional leaders.

Let us come together in these FINAL 3 WEEKS and sing like never before! I KNOW WE CAN DO IT!!!

HELLO CHOIR!

How's everyone? Still crazy over HongKong? or the rides in OCEAN PARK? HAHA!
Glad everyone had fun then. Especially some crazy people that laugh non-stop in the airplane. HAHA!

Now what we have to do is, when school reopen, all of us got to be serious and start learning the SYF 2009 set piece "The White Horses". Yes I know that it sounds weird, but i'm sure once we learn it, it'll be fine. =) Like "Be Peace On Earth"! haha.

All of us had fun, and now its time for serious work! Rest well for this remaining holiday, FINISH UP YOUR HOMEWORK, then when choir resumes again, we'll give it our best, and AIM FOR GOLD FOR SYF 2009. ***CHEEEEEERS***SCREEEEEAAM***

Update On Holiday Schedule

Dear all,

1) Change in the holiday schedule
I've added a rehearsal timing (for Grad Day Concert) in the morning of 13 Nov (Thu). It's on the same day as the Combined Rehearsal, which will be at GESS from 3.30 pm to 6 pm.

Please see below for the updated schedule.

2) Girls' costumes
The 26 girls who are going to HK, please bring your blue costumes on 3 Nov. Ms Cherlyn Tan will be sending them in to the tailor for alteration. If anyone is not able to turn up for practice on 3 Nov, please pass your costume to someone you know who will be coming. We have less than 2 weeks for the tailor to alter your costumes. So this is extremely urgent.

Holiday Schedule

Dear Beloved Choir,

Please check below for the holiday schedule.

*Only pupils who signed up for this.

The practices are important for the following events:
1) Graduation Day Ceremony - 14 November (Friday)
2) Performance at Disneyland, HK - most likely 10 December (Wednesday)
3) Preparation for SYF 2009 (set piece is out and some schools have started practising!)

I hope that everyone will attend every practice faithfully. Each time a member misses a practice, it affects the entire team - because we're all performing as a team. Please do not think that you're just one person and your absence will not make any difference. I can assure you it does.

How does it work?

When you do miss a practice and return for the next one, you'll be lost. When one Chorister projects a certain part of a song wrongly, it affects the rest of the team. The voices don't harmonise as well, or the timing is off, and so on. Everyone has to sing over and over and over again. We end up spending time trying to get it right instead of spending time to perfect our singing by improving our expression and so on.

So you see how each and everyone of you are so important?

But of course, we're not running a torture camp. If you feel GENUINELY unwell, please inform the teachers. Still, we'll really appreciate it if you could stay and listen to what Ms Khor's instructions are. Even though you are not well enough to sing, at least you know what's going on and wouldn't be as lost for the next practice. However, if you're not well enough to stay, please do see a doctor and rest at home instead of gallivanting around, aggravating your health in the process.

Speaking of which, the weather has been very cold of late. Please take good care of yourselves.

Well, it's going to be a very busy and exciting holiday! I know I'm looking forward to the trip. Are you? ;)

Singing of National Anthem

Dear Sec 1-3 Choristers,

Please report between 6.50 am and 7.00 am on Monday (18 Aug) outside the Science Lab at ground level.

Please be punctual because we need to have vocal warm-up first before singing. This is to protect your throat and maintain your lovely voices, or you'll end up having a crackly voice like mine. );

Do remember to be properly attired to be ready for the morning assembly:
1) Blouse/shirt properly tucked in,
2) Name tag pinned on blouse/shirt, and
3) School tie worn appropriately.

For the girls, please check that your skirt length is at knee-level; do not fold your skirt at the waistline. Sec 2 and 3 seniors, please do be good role models to your Sec 1 juniors.

'Twas A BLAST!

Dear Quest NDP Choristers,

You made it! The NDP 2008 was a blast! I was really proud of your performance! Your energy did not wane despite the heavy drizzle. Many of you were caught on the big screen! I saw the girls in Row D. I saw Meimei. I saw Joyce LIM - and even managed to catch her face with my camera! ;D

I am glad that all of you enjoyed yourselves. I am sure you've made fast friends with many fellow NDP Choristers from other schools. It is certainly an experience to remember for life - for how many times does one get to participate in NDP during one's secondary school days?

As I watched the grand finale, seeing the number of people running to fill up the stage, I recalled the time when I was worrying over who to be sent for the leaders' training (because it was just before the mid-year examinations; I didn't want your studies to be affected), the time when I watched you first learn the choreography in our Music Room, the time in RJC when the teachers were mercilessly whacked and whipped by your flying props (HAHA!), the countless training sessions you had in order to perfect the steps and singing, our participation in the NDP Media Brief, the noisy times when you were all in the bus... and so much more! We were part of something big and meaningful. From where I stood as I sang the national anthem, you all fitted in place to create a beautiful jigsaw puzzle.

How was it that you fitted in so wonderfully? It was the dedication you displayed, the enthusiasm you possessed at every rehearsal and your willingness to learn that made you all shine! And you certainly did shine for Singapore tonight. I hope you continue to exhibit such qualities for, as cliched as it sounds, these will determine the kind of person you become.

My heartfelt thanks to all of you who have made it a wonderful experience for me as well. To be honest, the past few months were a struggle for me, but it was just so amazing how things always worked out eventually. My heartfelt thanks to all of you: because of your enthusiasm, I was able to pull through and watch the fantastic performance! =D

Thanks to the Sec 3s, who helped where they could despite their very heavy load of school work (academic and otherwise).
Thanks to the Sec 2s, who took the initiative to do MANY things. You have been a great support!
Thanks to the Sec 1s, who were teachable and so full of enthusiasm!
Thanks to Miss Cherlyn Tan, Miss Yap, Mdm Shen and Mdm Wong for their invaluable sharing and feedback, as well as willingness to take up their duties over the months of crazy practices and rehearsals in and outside of school.
Thanks to the school for giving us the opportunity to take part in this national event. I also wish to take the chance to apologise if we had caused any inconvenience where the booking of the Music Room was concerned. All of you have been very patient and forgiving.
Thanks to Mr Singh for trusting us with the keys to the school gates and museum.
Last but not least, thanks to our NS Marshall, Terrance, for all his hard work and for looking after us so well since May. I am sure you will be fondly remembered!

On an ending note, I encourage Quest Choir to reflect on your NDP experiences over the past few months and what it means to be a Singaporean. Is it all about just putting on a big show at the NDP?

NDP Preview 2008

Choristers involved in NDP,

Please report at 11.30 am on 2 August 2008 (Saturday).
If you wish to have extra practice before the big show, you may come at 9.30 am.
Remember to bring your costumes: shirt, pants, pink cap, pink shoes and white gloves.

Do take note the following important points.

1) Please dance and sing at the same time. Feedback has been given that some pupils are still not singing.
2) Know the dance steps and lyrics for all songs very, very well. Some pupils were observed to be lost in their own world with regard to the dance steps.
3) You will not only be on national TV, but across the internet as well. We do have Singaporeans who are overseas who will tune in to watch. At the same time, people from other countries will get to see it too.
4) Pupils who are still unsure of lyrics and dance steps will not be allowed to perform on the stage on 2 Aug and 9 Aug - they will only spoil the entire performance. This is only fair to those who have been putting in a lot of effort in practising.

Hence, I urge all to be alert. Watch if your own movements match others' movements. Don't be too fast or too slow in your steps. Listen to the rhythm of the music and move with the rhythm. Don't just do the actions without hearing the rhythm.

Most definitely, please sing! Do memorise the lyrics if you haven't done so already.

Last but not least, put on your most radiant smile and have loads of fun!

I promise you, when you do ALL the above, you will naturally put in your 200% and you will love it!

Lower Sec Assembly on 28 July 08

Choristers involved in NDP 2008 will be performing at the Lower Secondary Assembly on 28 July 2008, this coming Monday, for the Shenyang visitors. You need NOT perform at the Upper Secondary Assembly.

You will be excused from lessons at 11.20 am. Please report to the Music Room ASAP. You have to change into your NDP costumes, so please remember to bring only your shirt and pants; caps, shoes and gloves are NOT needed.

Please take note of the timing below. We are running a very tight schedule, so do be quick.

If you've any questions, you may send me a message via SMS or MSN. Alternatively, you could drop a tag here.

After the performance, Choir training starts as usual at 3.30 pm. (Please read the blog entry on 21 July to see the programme for the coming Monday's practice.)

Some Announcements

Dear all,

Here are some announcements to take note of.

1) NDP Rehearsal
There is no NDP Rehearsal this coming Sat (26 July). Please have a good rest or catch up with your school work.

2) Performance for Lower Sec Assembly next Mon (28 July)
Choristers involved in NDP will be performing for visitors from Shenyang. We'll be performing only 2 songs (you should know which ones by now after today's practice). You will be informed of the timing for rehearsal, so please keep your eyes and ears open.

3) Choir Practice next Mon (28 July)
ALL Sec 1-3 choristers (NDP and non-NDP ones) are to attend this practice.
The programme is as follows:
3.30 pm: Vocal warm-up
4.15 pm: Learn new song 'Homeward Bound'.
5.00 pm: Non-NDP choristers will be dismissed while NDP choristers will stay on to practise.
6.00 pm: NDP choristers will be dismissed.

Please note that the songs learnt from 28 July onwards will be used for upcoming events (which I will tell you about soon) in Semester 2 and are possible songs for SYF 2009. Do come prepared for the training. We need EVERYONE to be committed and enthusiastic!

Attire: NDP costume + pink cap + pink shoes + white ankle socks (with NO logos); you may wear your PE attire to school and change into the NDP attire in school - if you find it embarrassing to be seen like that in public on your way to school
Things to bring: Props (excluding the 2 wooden sticks) in prop bag + bottled water + handphone
Venue of event: Floating platform @ Marina Bay
Showtime: 5 pm - 8.30 pm (judging from the timings during rehearsals)

I'm not sure what time we will get to board the bus. Possibly around 9.30 pm or later. You could send a message to your parents via SMS at the time of boarding so that they will roughly know what time to pick you up in school.

Please drink barrels of water on Friday and eat a healthy brunch/lunch on Saturday morning before you report at school.

- a shopping plastic bag (huge and strong enough to carry your own set of props; please do not use NTUC or Cold Storage type of plastic bags - they are not huge and strong enough),

Please hydrate yourselves well on Friday so that you will not suffer from heatstroke on Saturday. Have a good brunch before reporting to school.

Please be reminded of the following this week.

1) Combined schools' rehearsal for NDP 2008
Date: 18 June 2008 (Wed)
Reporting time: 2 pm
Reporting venue: School foyer
Attire: PE attire with proper ankle socks and footwear (no slippers and sandals)
Things to bring: All props, water bottle, extra set of PE attire (in case of rain) and minimal valuables
Rehearsal venue: Floating platform @ Marina Bay
Rehearsal time: 3-7 pm

As per normal, transport and dinner will be provided. However, please remember to eat your lunch before reporting to school. All props and costumes will be distributed on that day to those who were not involved in the Media Brief. (Please note that you are to wear proper ankle socks, nothing lower or shorter, whenever you perform in the NDP costumes. Also, no visible additional garment allowed when wearing the NDP costumes.)

2) First combined rehearsal for NDP 2008
Date: 21 June 2008 (Sat)
Reporting time: 12 pm
Reporting venue: School foyer
Attire: PE attire with proper ankle socks and footwear (no slippers and sandals)
Things to bring: All props, water bottle and minimal valuables
Rehearsal venue: Floating platform @ Marina Bay
Official Rehearsal time: 1-9 pm

Please note that the Choir will not be staying all the way until 9 pm since we are the pre-parade segment. However, it is not known at this point what time before 9 pm you will be dismissed from the rehearsal. As usual, a 2-way transport will be provided. Dinner will very likely be provided as well.

Both rehearsals are extremely important because these are the first few ones at the floating platform. The choreographer may make more changes due to the space constraints and outdoor conditions (eg. strong winds). Hence, please attend both rehearsals.

When you come back to school for all NDP-related rehearsals in or outside of school, please adhere to the attire stated below, except for full-dressed rehearsals or unless otherwise stated.

School shorts (strictly no outside shorts)
School socks
Proper footwear (strictly no slippers and sandals)

Half-uniform attire (eg. school PE t-shirt and non-school shorts) is not allowed unless special permission has been sought and given.

The security guard will not allow you to enter the school if you are not in school attire.

A two-way transport will be provided. After the rehearsals, we will arrive school at approximately 6.00 pm. NO MEALS will be provided. Hence, please make sure you eat well before the rehearsal. As usual, bring your water bottles.

Details of when and where to report for the media brief will be disclosed at a later date. Please visit our choir blog regularly to check.

hello hello my fellow choir mates. it's been so long since i've last updated this blog((: all the while ms tan was doing it(: it's been four years since i've been in choir. in a blink of an eye i've stepped down and a new batch of leaders will take over. well, my four years in choir had been really fruitful for me. i'm sure the others will think likewise. being a freshie in sec one and slowly becoming your chairperson, always losing my voice just to scream and shout at you guys. now, i'm going to watch the choir grow and progress and reach their goal in 2009's SYF. i'm sure the choir will pull through the tough training that's going to be installed for you guys. don't ever give up. not even when ms khor gives up! work hard and you'll be able to get that gold back! show the rest that you guys can do it on your own! GO GO JIA YOU!

Bravo, Choir! You were simply amazing last night! The energy level was so high that I was so worried that you'd be too tired to sing by the time you could go on stage. Hence I was constantly shushing you that you should conserve your energy in the dance studio.

Eventually though, you delivered your best and wowed the audience with your performance. Despite the 'eerie' microphone and technical glitch halfway through The Prayer, you remained alert and watched for Ms Khor's directions. That is the way to do it! Even though some pupils in the audience were giggling away when you sang the first song, teachers who enjoy evergreen songs gave very good feedback. And when you were singing the second and third songs, the audience was silently listening and watching you. You had caught their attention.

I hope the Secondary 1s who have joined us this year finally understood what it is like to perform together with the Quest Choir, under the direction of Ms Khor. Even though I was only helping out in turning the pages for our pianist Jun Ting, I could sense everyone was paying close attention to Ms Khor and working together as how a great team should. Jun Ting played exceptionally well too. He watched Ms Khor closely, his playing matched Ms Khor's timing throughout the performance and he played with all his heart. He did not panic either when the technician crew in the backstage accidentally unplugged our digital piano!

I know that many people fell ill during this very stressful period of time. This was just a fraction of what Quest Choir went through last year for SYF 2007! (I foresee extremely intensive practising next year for SYF 2009. Ms Khor has great plans for you!) So, please take good care of yourselves. Drink barrels of water and have enough (not excess!) sleep in preparation of your mid-year examinations in a couple of weeks' time.

Once again: Bravo, Choir, for a superb performance! I'm really proud of you!

Practices, Rehearsals & Costumes for Aesthetic Night

In case you've lost the schedule we distributed yesterday, here it is online for your viewing pleasure. (; I hope the table looks clear enough.

TBC = To Be Confirmed

For performers who were not able to attend the sectionals on Friday, please note that you will be excused from Upper Sec assembly and remedial this coming Monday afternoon (31 March). Please make your own arrangements for make-up lesson or remedial with your respective subject teachers.

Secondly, with regard to your costumes, the teachers have decided that it will be similar to the attire we adopted for SYF 2007.

Girls will wear the blue dress with silver sash and black strappy heels.
Boys will wear the white, long sleeved shirt with silver tie, black pants and black shoes.

I hope participants of SYF 2007 still have your costumes at home. Please try them out this weekend to see if the costumes still fit you.

Girls only: Those who have outgrown your costumes and there isn't enough cloth for alteration, please bring your costumes on Monday. We'll let the Sec 1s try them on. Then, we'll get the tailor to take measurements of members who don't have the costumes on another day.

For boys: Only Alvin will be bringing his costume to show the Sec 1 boys.

To all: If your costumes still fit you, then you don't have to bring them on Monday. However, please don't balloon any further... like me. );

I'm not sure how many of you actually read this blog. Kindly spread the word around via SMS and/or MSN because it's EXTREMELY URGENT. By the time all this is settled, the tailor has LESS THAN 2 WEEKS to produce and deliver the costumes to us. We must have the costumes latest by 14 April (Mon) - which is only 4 days before the big performance!

If you wish to clarify anything else, you may add me on your MSN.

A Couple of News

Hi people!

Yes, I know. 'Tis an unearthly hour to be blogging here. Since I'm up, I thought I'd share a couple of news with you.

1) Speech Day Performance
We'll be performing for our school's Speech-Day-and-Aesthetic-Night concert at Singapore Poly's Convention Centre on the 18th of April 2008. More details will be released to you on a later date.

2) NDP 2008
The schedule isn't officially out yet, but there will be training sessions for Choir student leaders of participating schools some time in mid-April - which is rather near to your mid-year examinations. Then, there may be a combined practice in late May, after the exams. The combined rehearsals for the entire NDP Choir will probably commence in late June (for FIVE WEEKENDS), excluding the NDP Preview and NDP itself.

Graduating seniors, you have the option of choosing whether or not you wish to participate in this national event - in view of your preparations for the 'N' and 'O' Levels. If you know that you are able to juggle your studies and the heavy schedule for NDP practices and rehearsals, you're most welcome to join in. If you know that you can't cope with both, ask yourself where your priorities lie. Participating in NDP is a rare and privileged opportunity for most of us. However, the national examinations are no less important for obvious reasons. Please give this serious thought and let me know your decision.

I will only open the remaining positions of NDP student leaders to the Secondary 2s and/or 3s AFTER confirming the number of graduating seniors who will be participating.

Schedule For CNY Concert 2008

Yes, Charlene. Here's an update now. :)

The remaining schedule for CNY Concert 2008 is as follows.

1) 28 Jan (Mon) - normal practice @ 3.30pm in the AVT
2) 4 Feb (Mon) - CNY concert rehearsal @ 3.30pm in the hall
3) 5 Feb (Tue) - tentative CNY concert rehearsal @ 3.30pm in the hall
4) 6 Feb (Wed) - CNY concert 2008

It is still unconfirmed at this point whether we'll be having the rehearsal on 5 Feb (Tue). It really depends very much on the rehearsal on 4 Feb (Mon) - whether all performing arts CCA groups are ready to perform.

So, my advice is: let's all do a good job so that we can have a good rest before the celebrations on CNY Eve in school!

Oh yes, before I forget: For those of us who are still referring to the lyrics while singing, we must memorise all 3 songs before the rehearsal on 4 Feb (Mon). Otherwise, it's likely we'll have to attend rehearsal again on 5 Feb (Tue).

really thank you so so so much for all the time, patience and effort, looking out for choir, looking after the choir and all. we really really want you to stay in choir. but i think it's hard to do so. but still our hearts are with you, and we'll never forget you. you MUST not forget us! come visit us often! support us all the way ok? choir will do you proud! it's really not easy being you. after all the trouble we gave you. but the only thing that we can do is to follow your rules. when there're problems that arised, you support us help us try. you guide us to greater heights and brought us hope. there is more than just missing you. there is more than just loving you. and we just want to thank you. it's the only thing we can do. to say thank you miss lim is the only thing we can do. you can find this same thing in my blog. yeap. zai wo men yan li, you will always be our teacher in charge. to ms lim!

A Brief Meeting (Edited)

Welcome back to school - and Choir - in this brand new year! (=

The first post of the year is a reminder for everyone to turn up for a brief meeting tomorrow as announced on Wednesday morning. Kindly pass the word around in any way you can.

The meeting will be chaired by Phui See, supported by the EXCO team. I will be there, of course.

Yangliu - lessons end late

Words of Thanks & Encouragement

I just saw the pictures Ms Lim posted.

GREAT JOB, EVERYONE! =)

Even though I wasn't with you, I could imagine the buzz and excitement (and chaos!!!) on the day of performance. I thought about Choir constantly on the 23rd of Dec on my flight back home; I wasn't able to concentrate very much on the movies I was trying to watch on SQ 621. By the time I emerged from Changi Airport, it was already well past the concert time.

In any case, I'm sure it was a memorable experience for everyone, with lots of learning points. I hope we've all done some reflection because this isn't going to be the last time we're putting up a performance.

It's been an eventful year, isn't it? 2007: SYF Central Judging, Speech Day, National Day celebrations, mini performance for a group pupils and teachers of a Japanese school, Alumni dinner, Euphony concert with GESS. While we were dealing with our own personal goals and struggles, I'm glad to see quite a number of you never giving up on Choir even though many times I knew some of you very much wanted to.

And so, I'm thankful - for your commitment and perseverance. I know there were times when Ms Khor, Ms Lim and I were harsh with you. But, overall, you have bore our teachings (and my screaming at you) rather well. Indeed, we've come a long way. There's definitely much room for improvement still. As imperfect as we are, we will continue to strive towards excellence (one of our new school core values)!

It is my wish and hope that we will AT LEAST maintain the Silver standard for SYF Central Judging 2009. This means stricter discipline with ourselves and having greater sense of urgency in what we do in 2008 to prepare for SYF 2009. It will also mean more work for the EXCO team (present and future) as well as much understanding and co-operation from every individual in Choir. I've already asked the EXCO team to start involving some of you in their duties as part of training and grooming of the future student leaders. Whether or not you become one eventually, please do not reject the opportunity to learn something you don't get to do in classroom education.

My vision for Choir: a very independent lot of well-disciplined (and like what Ms Khor said - cultured!) people with a passion for music and performance, contributing to the local Arts scene. You have shown me that you can be independent and well-disciplined. The next step is to be like this consistently - not only at the last minute when the date of a performance draws near.

There will be a few changes in Choir come 2008. I pray and hope that we'll all take these changes in a positive light. Only then will Quest Choir continue to soar to greater heights.

It's going to be an extremely busy and exciting year for us in 2008!!! One of the major highlights is being part of our nation's birthday celebration.
